# Omar Jesús Hernández Bastos

Lead Applied AI Engineer, FinTech. Valencia, Spain.

I build AI products that ship, and earn their keep.

Applied AI & engineering leader with 10+ years building software products, scaling teams and shipping AI in regulated financial environments. Currently Engineering Director, Digital Banking, AI & Data at Blossom.

## It started on an electronics bench.

An Electronic Engineer from Universidad Nacional Experimental del Táchira, in Venezuela, with freelance demos, proofs of concept and MVPs built alongside the degree.

Then a web development department, 14 sites shipped, and an MVP led from scratch for oil and gas maintenance.

## 10+ years, from engineer to director.

Full-Stack Engineer, then Technical Lead in 1 year, then Engineering Manager, then Engineering Director in four.

Building software products and scaling engineering organizations end to end.

## A new team every year.

Online banking, back office, super admin. Then the data team and, this year, AI engineering, both founded from scratch.

## 60+ engineers, directly and indirectly.

Core, mobile, marketing, company-wide AI adoption and the creation of a plugin ecosystem.

200+ employees impacted.

## Setting the AI standard for the company.

AI engineering, founded. How the company uses AI, defined. Internal tools powered by it, built, including Blossom Ask, an enterprise AI assistant and agent framework on AWS.

MCP brought to banking, and agents built every day.

An AI-powered Loan Origination System, productized: agentic lending for U.S. credit unions.

Working with now:

- The Amazon Bedrock and AgentCore ecosystem
- LLMs trained and run locally
- Diffusion models
- System One models

Direct work with partners like AWS: 6+ AWS-led workshops on Generative AI and Bedrock, and the primary AWS liaison.

## Growing people, not just teams.

60+ professionals interviewed and hired directly. 12+ leaders and go-to people trained.

The support when things break. Steady under pressure.

## Always building.

New technology adopted fast, prototypes built at speed: proofs of concept are home ground.

Side projects too: CrimsonDesert.app reached 37k visitors in its first week, built with AI.

## Also in games.

Mods for Project Zomboid, built with the same habits: small, tested, shipped.

- [Silkroad Online, in the browser](https://hernandezbastos.es/silkroad): Silkroad Online, a 2005 MMORPG, ported to WebGL with AI: playable in the browser, with the world, combat, skills and the original interface. (browser port)
- [KnoxGPS](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3785238102): A road GPS inside Project Zomboid: set a destination on the map and the shortest road route is drawn, with live distance. 2,500+ subscribers, and translated into Chinese by the community. (game mod)
- [Pickup Livestock](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3785685590): 500+ subscribers. (game mod)

## Things you can open.
